Thank you to all the wonderful teachers in my life!!!

Some weeks I am so "Thankful" it is Friday. This week is one of those weeks. I am the mother of 5 children ranging from 21 to 9. My youngest child has struggled with a speech and language disorder and was just diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder.  He is super smart and extremely popular among his peers. All of his classmates want to come to his house to play. He has been in speech therapy his entire life so that he can articulate words correctly.  I am happy that he came last because I am able to spend more time and give him more attention. Because of this our relationship is really strong and I have to remember to not be so protective of him when he is with his friends. He has wonderful teachers, and really good friends that do not treat him any differently.

Over the years I have relaxed my hovering tendency.  A week ago we were at some friends house that we had not seen in several years for a party. I do not advertise my child's disorder, but when he speaks it becomes apparent. Our friends 11 year old boy started teasing my child and mimicking his voice. I have to say it was eye opening because he had not been teased before. My child left the party and went and sat in the car. I did not witness the teasing. I got the story out of him on the way home. He was humiliated. I wanted to turn around and have him point out all the kids that were teasing him, but we were already far away.

He is the sweetest kindest person you could ever meet. I am so thankful for all the loving, kind hearted people in my life. These people accept us for who we truly are and love us for our shortcomings. This week was teacher appreciation at our school. I wrote Thank you notes to all of his teachers, principal, speech therapist and reading specialist. They make my child feel like a million bucks. They encourage him to do anything he sets his mind to. I personally believe that people need to be told that they are appreciated. A short note does not take very long to write, but means the world to the person receiving it. Write a short note to someone today telling them Thank you for their kindness. It will mean the world to them and to you too!!!

Let me know what you are thankful for...Happy Crafting!!! Jacqueline

  1. I have a special needs granddaughter who is now 19 years old. We moved to Ga. 18 years ago to help with her care. It is hard not to hover and protect them. People can be cruel and undo some of the good work that professionals do for these children. I pray daily for these children that God will be there "wall of fire" to protect them from harsh people with harsh words. These children are wonderfully made by God.

  2. So sorry to hear about your son's unhappy experience. I'm sure it prompted indepth talks between you two. Tell him there are people who will always love him and those who will not, how to tell the difference, and how to deal with both.-----Much love to you all. Love your company.
